Jesus once said to one of the religious leaders of his day, “Unless a man is born again he cannot enter God’s Kingdom” (John 3:3-6). Throughout his teachings elsewhere, Jesus made it clear that there was something deeply wrong with man. We are spiritually dead because of our sin (Genesis 2:17; 3:1-24; Romans 6:23) and so our relationship to God is broken.
Since we are the offending party, having broken God’s clear command and rejected his rule over us, there is nothing we can do in ourselves to restore that relationship and to qualify ourselves to stand before him in innocence. Even much of the Bible is beyond our ability to understand because it is spiritually grasped.
(1 Corinthians 2:14; John 6:63, John 16:13).
So, we need him to take the initiative. And He has done just this! By willingly giving his life for us on the cross, Jesus made it possible to enjoy a relationship with God once again! He removes the sin from our lives so that we stand pure and holy before God.
(Hebrews 9:12-15; 10:1-22; Isaiah 1:18-20).
Jesus’ words to the people of his day carry the same promise to us today. We can have a rich and beautiful relationship with God. If you ” repent ” of your sin (that is, make a decision to change the direction of your life), recognizing that you are a sinner, and ask Jesus to forgive you and make you a new person, you will begin a new life (Acts 2:38-39; John 3:16-18)!
God has promised to give us new life when we trust in Jesus and depend on him, believing that his sacrifice was for us. He gave his life to redeem us from all the consequences of sin.
(1 John 3:16; Gal. 3:13-14; 1 Peter 2:24; Isaiah 53:4-5; 2 Corinthians 8:9).
The Scriptures tells us (Romans 10:9-13) that if we believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, and confess that Jesus is in charge of our lives, we are saved from sin and spiritual death. If you ask Jesus to come into your life right now, wherever you are, this new life will be yours. Just say, ” God, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I turn away from my sin and ask Jesus to take charge of my life. I trust in his sacrifice for me and accept him. Thank you Father! ”
If you prayed this prayer from your heart, then you’re a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17-21; John 6:37). Your old life has passed away and everything has become new. If you did not make that commitment, do yourself a favor and look up the Scriptures we’ve listed. Ask God to help you to see the truth of his word. If you ask him, He will open your heart to understand (John 14:6).
